It's principal designation is Ethnic Studies and calls for a focus on Americans of Mexican descent. A teacher who proposes to teach this course could very well be told that the course is primarily an Ethnic Studies course and that it cannot be taught because the State Board of Education only approved standards for Mexican American content. I'll elaborate on this at a later point as well as on the other issue, that Georgina Perez, Board representative from El Paso, proposed the Ethnic Studies, Americans of Mexican descent, and is disingenuously calling it Mexican American Studies, an idea that she has always opposed. She has also failed to engage educators, researchers, parents and youth us on the merits of Mexican Studies, preferring instead to come to the Board meeting with the motion already prepared. In other words, she did not come prepared to listen and engage but to consolidate the conservative view behind her.<br /> Emilio Zamorahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07046294567326858016noreply@blogger.com
