Recent article by Milton Friedman

Wanted to share this piece with blog readership The Father of Modern School Reform (December 2005) It's an interview with Milton Friedman who came up with the idea for vouchers. What should be known is that no one thought much about what he wrote in the early days until white Southerners wanted to avoid desegregation efforts. When his ideas provided the way to maintain Jim Crow, they became popular. This should similarly warn us today that a marketized schooling system will result in a re-stratification of educational quality and opportunity--away from the direction that we want to go in.

Hope all are well as we head toward the X-mas holidays. -Angela

  1. Why is it when middle class whites want their children to go to school with other middle class whites, they are racist, but when elite, "progressive" whites send their children to all white private schools such as Sidwell Friends (Chelsea Clinton), National Cathedral (Kareena Gore), St Albans (Al Gore III), Andover (Vanessa Kerry), that those parents are not considered the last bit racist?

Before you start calling the middle class whites a bunch of racist why doesn't the teacher unions, "progressive" eductors, and the extreme left insist that the politicans that they support send their children to "diverse" urban, public schools.

    1. They're racist and classist. Oftentimes, unknowingly, too. Other times knowingly, simply exercising their privilege. We have a long history of insisting. It's called the fight for school integration.

  2. This is not a matter of calling certain people racist since the ideology of white supremacy leaves absolutely no one untouched. Indeed, this is a global phenomenon that tracks back to colonialism. I actually agree with you that ALL should support and send their children to "diverse" urban, public schools.

Martin Luther King himself referred to the white liberal (he called them "moderates) as a most problematic group. I quote him here from his "Letter in Birmingham Jail." (I have a link to it on the right side of my blog if you want to read the whole thing.)

"I must make two honest confessions to you, my Christian and Jewish brothers. First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Councilor or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season." Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection."

  3. Exactly why is this whenever center course white wines would like their own kids to visit college along with additional center course white wines, they're racist, however whenever top notch, "progressive" white wines deliver their own kids to any or all whitened personal colleges for example Si dwell Buddies (Chelsea Clinton), Nationwide Cathedral (Karenina Gore), Street Albany (ING Gore 3), And over (Vanessa Kerry), which individuals mother and father aren't regarded as the final little bit racist? great article

Before you begin phoning the center course white wines a lot of racist the reason why does not the actual instructor unions, "progressive" educators, and also the severe remaining demand how the politicians they assistance deliver their own kids in order to "diverse" city, open public colleges.
