Registration is open for next week’s Texas SBOE hearing on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016

The window for signing up for next week's hearing just opened today (Friday, September 9, at 8 a.m. through Monday, September 12, at 5 p.m.). However, you MUST register to testify.

This post also contains information on the press conference and rally also planned for that day.

Feel free to see for yourselves just how racist and offensive the textbook is by clicking on this link to read the book itself if you like.

As you can see from the following agenda, the amount of time given to testify is a mere 2 minutes, so be sure to script all of your points well:  http://tinyurl.com/zmpuedh

Also, if you haven’t already done so, be sure to sign the petition, as well: http://masfortexas.org/

I’m having my students from both classes attend the SBOE hearing on Tuesday, btw.

One last thing.  After registering online, be sure to call TEA on Monday to make sure that your own registration went through. Their number is 512-463-9601.

Responsible Ethnic Studies Textbook Coalition

Reject the TextThe SBOE testimony registration period is now open, and we urge you to sign up to testify against the Mexican-American Heritage textbook on September 13.

There's a lot wrong with the book: not only does it insult Mexican Americans, but also African Americans and other people of color. It whitewashes slavery and dismisses the idea of church-state separation. (There's lots more - click here for more on the textbook.)

We need a diversity of voices telling the SBOE that this simplistic, offensive and error-plagued textbook has no place anywhere near a public school classroom. The testimony will begin on Tuesday morning after 10 a.m. You have from now until 5 p.m. on Monday (Sept. 12) to register to testify — but don't delay!

Whether you're planning to testify, or whether we'll see you at the rally on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., your involvement on this issue is an important force.
