Throughout 2017, we proudly celebrate the many programs and resources made possible by your support as TSHA marks 120 years of promoting Texas history. Each month we spotlight different aspects of our programs and publications to illuminate the wide variety of resources and outreach opportunities you help provide. |

For September, we focus on Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated Sept. 15th - Oct. 15th. As we recognize the cultural accomplishments of Hispanic and Latino Americans across the U.S., we celebrate the significant impact and influence of Tejanos in Texas history.

| Under the direction of History professors Emilio Zamora, at The University of Texas at Austin, and Andrés Tijerina, at Austin Community College, TSHA embarked on a mission to increase the number of Tejano and Mexican American entries in the Handbook of Texas. Two years and 1,200 entries later, the Handbook of Tejano History launched on March 29, 2016, on the fourth anniversary of the Tejano Monument's unveiling on the Texas State Capitol lawn. |

| This month, TSHA has re-released the FREE eBook, Tejanos Through Time, a curated selection of entries from the Handbook of Tejano History. In it, readers can discover the accomplishments of several notable Tejanos who helped shape the Lone Star State. |

On November 7 - 8, 2017, TSHA partners with the Bullock Texas State History Museum and Region 13 Educational Service Center to offer the Discovering Texas History Conference to Austin-area educators at the Thompson Conference Center on November 7th and at the Bullock Texas State History Museum on November 8th. The conference will present the history of Texas from 1836 to 1900. Sessions for new teachers and American history teachers will be available as well. Teachers will be able to choose from a variety of breakout sessions addressing historical content, geography, economics, civics, teaching strategies, and resources.

On February 5-6, 2018, TSHA partners with Aldine ISD to offer the Exploring Texas History Conference to Houston-area educators at the at the M. B. Sonny Donaldson Child Nutrition Center, Aldine ISD. The conference will present the history of Texas from 1900 to the present. Sessions for new teachers and American history teachers will be available as well. Teachers will be able to choose from a variety of breakout sessions addressing historical content, geography, economics, civics, teaching strategies, and resources.
