The application for our 2018 MASBA Scholarships is available online! We are pleased to continue the tradition of this longtime member benefit: All seniors of MASBA member districts are eligible for these scholarships, which are made payable to institutions of higher learning. The application deadline is April 23, so our seniors still have over two weeks to complete the very simple application process! Do you know a graduating senior of a MASBA member district? Encourage him/her to be a #MASBAscholar today!
This is epic: Our State Board of Education is taking up the issue of the formulation of Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) for a state-approved curriculum in Mexican American Studies! This is the second item on the agenda of the next SBOE meeting on Wednesday, April 11, at 9:00 a.m. You can imagine how excited we are to hear this news! Our MASBA Board has approved a resolution in support of TEKS for Mexican American Studies, and now we need your help! Please express your own support for the approval of TEKS for Mexican American Studies to your representative on the State Board of Education! Please set a reminder and visit the SBOE website to sign up for public comment beginning at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. And please spread the word and join us for a press conference & rally in support of TEKS for Mexican American Studies onWednesday, April 11, 8:30 a.m., in front of the William B. Travis State Office Building (1701 North Congress Avenue, 78701). ¡La uniĆ³n hace la fuerza! ¡Corran la voz y pongan su granito de arena!
Save the date! Are you coming to the Region 1 School Boards Spring Conference on South Padre Island on May 18-19? Spread the word and join us for our annual Region 1 MASBA Reception on Saturday, May 19, 6:00-11:00 p.m. at Doubleday Sports Bar of Champions in Port Isabel! Come, meet other trustees, enjoy brisket & menudo, and dance the night away! There is no cost for this event, which is generously sponsored by our friends at ROFA and Doubleday Sports Bar of Champions.
For those who are looking for a more cost-effective alternative and/or supplement to the annual NSBA conference in San Antonio, please consider joining us for Latinx 2020! This first-of-its-kind, non-partisan conference for school board members & community leaders will discuss a number of highly-anticipated topics, including the 2020 U.S. Census, the future of public education, and the performance of our Latinx community!

Is your school district a member of MASBA?
We look forward to welcoming you into our growing movement
of trustees and superintendents focused on closing gaps!
