We so need to upgrade the K-12 curriculum with critical, multicultural education texts.
If you are an elementary school teachers, consider taking a deep dive into critical, multicultural education textbooks if you haven't already. While you're at it, you would do well to learn about the field of multicultural education itself. Rethinking Schools out of Milwaukee has been addressing this for some time now.
For example, this text title, Rethinking Multicultural Education is an excellent resource for getting a sense of what the range of concerns are within the field of multicultural education. Another excellent text is Teaching for Black Lives: Black students’ minds and bodies are under attack. We’re fighting back. Here’s an in-depth set of resources on Native American Indigenous Enslavement books from my blog. Another post titled, For Texas Teachers: A Framework for Teaching American Slavery is loaded with resources. Dr. Laura Alamillo, Larissa Mercado-Lopez, and Cristina Herrera also have a wonderful book titled, Voices of Resistance: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Chican@ Children's Literature.

For bilingual or emergent bilingual children, you will want to, check out Colorín Colorado: A bilingual site for educators and families of English language learners.
Another great resource is the Tomas Rivera Children’s Book Award that is social justice oriented that one of our graduates, Dr. Jesse Gainer has directed over the years. Here is a link to book activities.

Here’s a great listing of Aztec children’s books, too. For Asian Americans, consider both Asian & Asian American Children’s Books for Ages 0 to 18 and Asian American Books List for Kids.
