Reclaiming Schooling/ Recuperando la Eseñanza: Radically Reimagining the Work of Education by Angela Valenzuela, Ph.D.

Friends,

I am so honored to have been this year's 2020 Richard T. Castro Distinguished Professor at Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colorado.  It was a two-day event, beginning on Wednesday evening, October 7, featuring myself, Texas State University Professor Dr. Chris L. Milk, and members of Nuestro Grupo, the community-based organization that organizes activities associated with Academia Cuauhtli, our Saturday school in Austin, Texas.

It was a special treat for me to be able to present on the work of our community with them actually present in the audience and sharing directly in the moment. The second day of Thursday, October 8, 2020 consisted of a keynote lecture followed by a community discussion (links provided below).

Thanks again to the organizing committee that brought me, particularly, Dr. Chalane Lechuga, Dr. Adriana Nieto, Virginia Castro, Jeremy VanHooser, Dr. Ruth M'Gonigle, Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion Dr. Michael Benitez, the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies, and Metro State President Janine Davidson. Kudos to artist Laura de la Cruz for her beautiful work!
