Uvalde school district and a litany of law enforcement agencies could face $27 billion class-action lawsuit over shooting

This lawsuit is great news. Glad that The lawsuit seeks damages from AR-15 manufacturer, Daniel Defense, and establishes a "medical monitoring fund to pay for counseling for those affected by the incident and further compensation for the victims of the shooting, their families and the other people in the school on the day of the tragedy." They and the community will definitely need this support and restitution over the long term to make them not so much "whole," but "more whole."

We must, as a state, turn this around and not only support these families as LULAC just did by giving them close to half a million dollars (see earlier post), but support over the long term for the systemic failures that are abundantly clear. Beyond this, we MUST seek gun safety policies—like keeping AR-15s out of the hands of 18-year-olds, background checks, and red flag laws—to keep this from ever happening again. This could not be more urgent.

A lawyer for shooting victims is seeking compensation for victims and families, citing the Texas House committee’s investigative report that found “systemic failures” in response to the tragedy.
