Texas University Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) & Tenure Guidelines for Students and Faculty from the NAACP Legal Defense Fund

 Friends:

An urgent matter. Sharing these university-level, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) and Tenure Guidelines for Texas universities, compliments of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund (LDF).

If you're at a Texas university, you will want to check with your own administrators regarding how the university itself is operationalizing Senate Bills 17 and 18. Other things you can do are to join your respective university's senates so that you can have a voice on such matters. Also consider joining AAUP that is thankfully, very much activated at this moment now that tenure rights and academic freedom are threatened. If you don't has an AAUP chapter on your university campus, then form one. I recently joined!

Reversing what may be a growing trend of departures from public higher education institutions (Stephens, 2023), I met a young scholar yesterday who taught at a private Texas university and switched to a public one so that he could join the fight. Boy, did that put a smile on my face.

I had earlier learned of another similar scholar that had done this, too. So impressed and encouraged!

I still think it's helpful to have what attorneys with a dedicated focus on the law and now, rulemaking see in terms of the do's and don'ts.

Know your rights! Paste this to your refrigerator.

Abundant thanks to Antonio Ingram and the LDF team for their expert, legal perspective.
