Great news! On November 9, 2017 the California State Board of Education appointed our very own José Lara to the Instructional Quality Commission (IQC) for a 4 year term. The IQC is responsible for advising the State Board of Education on all matters relating to curriculum and instruction. This will also include the development of a state approved Ethnic Studies model curriculum that must be developed by 2019 per Assembly bill 2016 (AB 2016) that we helped pass last year.
As you know, José Lara is the Coordinating Committee Member for the Ethnic Studies Now Coalition. You can follow him on Twitterat Twitter.com/josedelbarrio
This follows the historic win for Mexican American Studies in the federal courts in Tucson AZ, where a judge ruled that the State of Arizona “acted with racial animus.” You can read about this historic win for Mexican American Studies here: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/unconstitutional-arizona-ban_us_599cd201e4b0d97c3fffdc9d

Please Consider a Donation to the Ethnic Studies Now Coalition
As an independent, grassroots organization, we depend on donations from generous supporters like you. Most of what we do is funded out of pocket by individual teachers, parents, students and local community members, so if you support the work we are doing with the Ethnic Studies Now Coalition please help us with a donation. We cannot do it without you. With your help we can expand our community organizing/advocacy campaign, provide professional development support for teachers and curriculum design for school districts (and how about a taco truck on every corner, too!)
