MALC CHAIRMAN RAISES PROCEDURAL PATH ON HOUSE FLOOR TO ENGAGE SCHOOL FINANCE REFORM

Dear Readers,

The following is the press release put out by the Mexican American Legislative Caucus addressing the urgency for House members to take up the issue of school finance.  In lieu of Judge Dietz' ruling this past Monday (2/4/13), State Representative Trey Martinez Fischer is appropriately arguing that there is no reason for House members to stall on meeting the needs of millions of Texas school children.

Soon after Rep. Martinez Fischer's actions on the House floor, the following was cited in the Dallas Morning-News saying:
[lawmakers] have the ability, within our rules, to act today...There is a clear path to begin the debate of restoring funding cuts and fixing our broken school finance system
The MALC's call to action has been echoed by the House Democratic Caucus and various other members, such as Representatives Mary Gonzalez, Terry Canales, Phil Cortez, Abel Herrero, Joe Moody, Poncho Nevarez, Mary Ann Perez, Justin Rodriguez, and Armando Walle.  In a joint statement (see below), the above members also called for Governor Perry to urge General Greg Abbott not to pursue an appeal, or delay school funding discussions in an expensive special session.
