Texas Center for Education Policy to host Fellows from the Bowen Institute for Policy Studies in Higher Education
March 6, 2013
AUSTIN, TEXAS — The Texas Center for Education Policy is excited to announce its two- day hosting of The Claremont Graduate University’s Bowen Institute for Policy Studies in Higher Education on March 11-12, 2013. Each year, the Bowen Institute for Policy Studies in Higher Education selects a cadre of fellows to participate in a series of events, which include select contexts where they are able to engage policy actors who play key roles in decision-making processes. This year, the University of Texas and the Texas Center for Education Policy (TCEP), as well as the University of California Los Angeles, have been selected for our respective, cutting-edge work in the area of policy studies and engaged scholarship.
“It is a real honor for the Texas Center for Education Policy at UT to have been selected as this year’s host of the Bowen Scholars,” stated Dr. Angela Valenzuela, TCEP Director. “This is a testament to the great work of the Center.”
The central goals of the Bowen Institute for Policy Studies in Higher Education are to facilitate academic activity in the area of public studies and system/institutional policy in higher education, and partner with entities that can expose fellows to key policy leaders from a variety of arenas whose work and interests address the most pressingcontemporary issues in higher education.
For two full days, Bowen Fellows will convene at the Texas state capitol where they will receive an historical overview of public and higher education in Texas, and presentations on policy issues that are currently being deliberated. Fellows will also hear from current and former state legislators, civil rights advocates, and scholars involved in current policy discussions. Following their visit, Bowen Fellows will produce a scholarly volume documenting their experiences with the Texas Center for Education Policy and their engagement with the Texas political, policy, and legislative processes and context.
