Cuts in college grants to hurt poor students, official says
Gee, does this get any more painful?! Three-quarters of student aid funding comes from federal funding and Texas is supposed to make up the remaining 25% and now it's cut the TEXAS Grant program and additional mechanisms for spending our few precious available dollars are getting considered. How can we possibly squeeze out so many people from their pursuit of a higher education opportunity through insufficient financial aid in our state? Distressing!
This blog on Texas education contains posts on accountability, testing, K-12 education, postsecondary educational attainment, dropouts, bilingual education, immigration, school finance, environmental issues, Ethnic Studies at state and national levels. It also represents my digital footprint, of life and career, as a community-engaged scholar in the College of Education at the University of Texas at Austin.
Let's hope that the college funding situation turns around soon. Having more educated citizens only benefits the community as a whole and may reduce crime.
