Please join the Center for Mexican American Studies for “Américo Paredes: Mexican American Studies, the University, and Modernity” a lecture by José E. Limón.
Based largely on José E. Limón's recollection of many conversations with Américo Paredes during the period 1968-1972, this talk is less of a lecture and more of a spoken essay, a contribution to an oral history. It explores the ambivalence and tension between Mr. Paredes' intellectual modernity and the founding and development of the Center for Mexican American Studies at UT-Austin at that moment in the University's own history.
