“Don’t Mess with Texas Families.”
At Trump protest, Austin mayor vows to keep immigrant families safe —Austin American-Statesman Report
Happy to share this video I took from yesterday's 1500-people strong, Immigrant Rights Press Conference and march last Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016 in Austin, Texas. The press conference began at City Hall and then became a march down Congress Ave. to the Capitol.
You can listen for yourself to the concerns and anxieties conveyed in the wake of a Trump presidency that were expressed by several of those that spoke, alongside commitments of support by Austin Mayor Steve Adler and Council Member Greg Casar.
Our Mayor promised that Austin would also be an immigrant
sanctuary and that cities across the US are uniting in this way. Hope
this materializes into a fortress of protection for our society's most
vulnerable, especially our immigrant children and youth. Read story here.
Listen to Austin Council Member Greg Casar speak
Activist Cristina Tzinzún leading the march down Congress.
Montserrat Garibay, local leader, heads the march at the Capitol.
Personally, I felt very proud yesterday of our city leadership and community.
We must not grow weary in the cause of justice. We must redouble our efforts and take a strong stand against hate and all forms of oppression, big and small. Peace and blessings to all, especially to our community that lives in fear.
Please have an open mind as you hear these testimonies. They put a human face on what has otherwise been harmful campaign rhetoric that has has dehumanized this. This will of course be an unfolding story as we see what policies Trump enacts going forward.
