So glad to see Maria Hammack's important work on Texas' Underground Railroad featured at the Emma S Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center. Dr. Hammack's work from her doctoral dissertation from the History Department at the University of Texas examines, as the subtitle indicates, Austin's Abolitionist Movement & Underground Railroad for Freedom Fighters From Central Texas into Mexico.
We don't know this history. Nor are we taught it. First, we need the historians like Dr. Hammack to unearth it.
Felicidades, Maria. Congratulations on your important work!
And thanks to Larissa Davila and Martha Cotera of the Latino Art, Culture and Education (LACE) for hosting this June 25th presentation.
