Friends:
Emotions are understandably high in the wake of the attempted coup of National LULAC by Republican Party Puerto Rican Islander leadership at the National Convention in San Juan Puerto Rico last Saturday, July 30, 2022. There is also a lot of misinformation going out. I hope to lend clarity with this post.
Specifically, I would urge anyone that wants to offer any criticism against LULAC right now to not do so without reading this sworn account by Bethzaida Olivera Vazquez that is downloadable here [pdf].
She provides an eye-opening, if not shocking, account of what has been happening behind the scenes in National LULAC over the years.
Read for yourself. I cannot exaggerate this.
As per my July 30, 2022 post to this blog, this should be read alongside the Temporary Restraining Order issued by a Dallas, Texas, federal judge that was supposed to have halted last Saturday's election [downloadable here [pdf].
In violation of this injunction, the election happened anyway. It's curious that instead of "lawyering up," in response to the injunction, some of the LULAC leadership chose this route instead. Those that did not attend or participate in the election—which was most of the board—are fine. Those that did not will have to answer to the court.
Do read, as well, this encouraging press release posted below by LULAC President Domingo Garcia that went out on Monday, August 1st. Out of bad things come good things, for sure. I love the tone of brighter days to come. We should all be heartened that these shenanigans are getting exposed to the light of day.
The hearing before the Dallas judge is coming up soon, as well, so stay tuned.
