More news out of Puerto Rico. Instead of an attempted coup of LULAC by members of the Partido Nuevo Progresista (PNP; i.e., the Republican Party of Puerto Rico), this time around it involves a member named Wanda Vázquez Garced who served as Governor of Puerto Rico from August, 2019 through January, 2021.
According to this piece, sometime during this time period, Vasquez Garced was part of a bribery scheme involving the owner of an international bank and his associate, who happened to be a former FBI agent. Go figure.
Continuing, these individuals provided $300,000.00 in funding for Vázquez’s gubernatorial campaign "in exchange for her replacing the island’s top bank regulator with one of their choosing." This bank owner sought to thwart an investigation by a banking regulatory agency.
Such corruption. If convicted, this ex-governor and PNP member could do hard time. All told, this was not a good week for the PNP. I am glad to see these people brought to justice.
