University of New Mexico partners with National Hispanic Institute

These are truly excellent news. National Hispanic Institute founders, Ernesto Nieto and Gloria de León have a long track record of excellence in educating and uplifting our Latina/o/x students from throughout the country. Our older daughter benefitted from attending one of the Lorenzo de Zavala (LDZ) Legislative Sessions back in 2008.

Many celebrated leaders, including Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Judge Lina Hidalgo, have emerged from this institute and network that's changing the world. I remember a good number of my students at Rice University where I used to teach sharing just how transformative LDZ was for them.

Thank you, Ernie and Gloria, as well as to their children, Nicole and Roy, and the many generations of NHI leaders for carrying the torch for equity, inclusion, and social justice. Thanks, as well, to Dr. Lawrence Roybal, for sharing.
