Good morning Angela,
I hope this finds you having an excellent semester. I work at a nonprofit called MANOS in Oaxaca and we are happy to announce our eighth immigration advocate training will be here in Oaxaca, Mexico from January 2nd through the 13th, 2023. We are hoping you would be so kind as to share this announcement with any networks you think would be interested in this opportunity. We still have a couple spaces left!!
In partnership with the Oaxacan non-profit MANOS: Migrantes Apoyados, No Olvidados, this training is a two-week program at Centro Ollin Tlahtoalli with an emphasis on language (Spanish or Zapotec) and enhancing intercultural awareness through learning opportunities with community leaders, human rights defenders, lawyers, and language teachers. We have found that through this dynamic combination of seminars and visits to local Indigenous communities, U.S.-based immigration advocates who work for and with immigrant communities learn how to better support, assist, and learn from the people they serve who come from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
All profits from this training go to support the work of MANOS to offer free legal services to Oaxacan migrants, to families of “disappeared” migrants, and to refugees. Visit the MANOS website at www.manosoaxaca.org to learn more.
In solidarity,
Florence Weinberg

Ollin Tlahtoalli is a Spanish and Culture Center founded in 2007 in Oaxaca, Mexico by a small group of Oaxacan teachers and educators. Ollin Tlahtoalli is a Spanish school founded on the principles of community engagement and social justice through education. Ollin Tlahtoalli is committed to our Oaxacan people and the many educational and social needs of the people. In addition to providing Spanish courses for international students, Ollin offers free English lessons to Oaxacan artisans, art-identity workshops in Indigenous communities and professional development opportunities for local teachers. Ollin Tlahtoalli is the main organizer of the International Assembly for Community Development Across Borders, a gathering of community leaders, organizers, land defenders, artists, students and academics interested in creating strong and active networks of support across borders. (2018, 2019). One of our main goals is to create critically informed language and culture programs that can bring together local and international communities of students and educators alike.
