Regarding the H-1B visa approach to filling gaps, one teacher expresses the following:
“It’s head-scratching to me that people who are highly trained, highly effective, and highly qualified and who are filling a role that’s underserved are now being asked to pack their bags, go home, and just only potentially be invited back. It makes no sense,” one teacher who’d been recruited from the Philippines told the Sun.
Throughout the country, there are many such teachers working under the H-1B visas system whose futures in the classrooms are insecure in the current policy context for immigration. In Dallas alone, there are 250 teachers working in classrooms currently that are experiencing this insecurity. They represent a few among literally thousands of teachers.
