JD Vance, Tucker Carlson, and Donald Trump, Jr. endorse a book calling Far-Left 'Unhumans,' and Praising Fascist Dictators

Friends:

I hate to give a white supremacist, racist screed any oxygen, but it matters a lot that Vice-Presidential candidate JD Vance recently endorsed it. The book written by Jack Posobiec and Joshua Lisec titled, “Unhumans: The Secret History of Communist Revolutions (and How to Crush Them)" nevertheless carries this top endorsement as follows:

“In the past, communists marched in the streets waving red flags. Today, they march through H.R., college campuses and courtrooms to wage lawfare against good, honest people,” he wrote. “Jack Posobiec and Joshua Lisec reveal their plans and show us what to do to fight back.”

Making matters worse, as I just learned in an August 5, 2024 New York Times article written by Michelle Goldberg, Tucker Carlson and Donald Trump Jr. also endorsed the book with Stephen Bannon authoring its foreword. She also reminds us that Jack Posobiec is perhaps best known for spreading the conspiracy theory that Democrats operated "a satanic child abuse ring beneath a popular Washington pizzeria."

Oh, okay, that guy.

The book outrageously and erroneously casts left-wing progressives as people who "'hate and kill' anyone who stands in their way." Where is the evidence for such an outlandish claim?

Such inflammatory language and utter disregard for the dignity and rights of others for which progressives customarily advocate should never have any place in politics.

This association between Posobiec, Vance, Tucker Carlson, and Donald Trump, Jr. should alert us all to the grievance politics that carry within them the threat of violence against any and all they deem "unhuman."

These folks are the dangerous cabal, not leftists or progressives who want to make a better world. Let's turn the mirror on them to display their own inhumanity by exposing the cruelty and prejudice that drive their political aspirations.

JD Vance endorsed a book calling far-left 'unhumans,' and praising fascist dictators

Josh Meyer | USA Today | August 11, 2024

WASHINGTON – Before he was tapped as Donald Trump’s vice-presidential running mate, Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, enthusiastically endorsed a new book by a far-right conspiracy theorist that praises fascist dictators for violently suppressing leftists − or, as the book calls them, "unhumans."

Vance was one of several prominent conservatives to blurb the book, which links current American progressives to past communists and other “unhumans” that need to be “crushed” by any means necessary.

“In the past, communists marched in the streets waving red flags. Today, they march through HR, college campuses, and courtrooms to wage lawfare against good, honest people,” Vance says in a blurb on the back cover of “Unhumans: The Secret History of Communist Revolutions (and How to Crush Them).”

“In Unhumans,” Vance adds, authors “Jack Posobiec and Joshua Lisec reveal their plans and show us what to do to fight back.”

Posobiec, an influential Trump supporter, rose to MAGA-world fame in 2016 by advancing conspiracy theories including "PizzaGate" which falsely claimed Democrats were running a child sex trafficking ring out of a Washington, D.C. pizza parlor that led to a man storming the restaurant with an assault rifle.

Praise for dictators and opposition to democracy

The basic premise of "Unhumans" is that throughout history there has always been an amorphous cabal of leftists who “hate and kill” anyone who stands in their way, including God-fearing, law-abiding Americans. The blob of "the bureaucrats and their activist allies who hold your legal, financial, and social fate in their hands" − are so evil and out to ruin society that they are not worthy of consideration as humans, the book argues.
"Our study of history has brought us to this conclusion: Democracy has never worked to protect innocents from the unhumans. It is time to stop playing by rules they won’t," write Posobiec, a far-right provocateur and Joshua Lisec, a professional ghostwriter.

These "unhumans" need to be suppressed by those willing to emulate right-wing dictators like Spain’s Francisco Franco, they write.

After overthrowing Spain's democratically elected republic in 1936, Franco and his far-right Nationalists instituted martial law. During the ensuing Spanish Civil War, the Nationalists sent more than 500,000 people to concentration camps and executed another 100,000. After the war ended, during Franco's subsequent dictatorship, they killed another 50,000, according to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

The authors dedicate a chapter to how Americans can fight back against the unhumans, titled "The Plan: Counterrevolutionary Strategy and Tactics."

"When the unhumans bring a show of force, team humanity must bring forth an even greater one," they write, urging readers to emulate autocrats such as "Julius Caesar, Napoleon Bonaparte, Pyotr Wrangel, Francisco Franco, Chiang Kai-shek—each with their officers, their soldiers, their fighting men in arms."

It continues: "Whenever such a man has willed communism into submission, it has always been with equitable means. The communist-socialists shoot the priests; Franco’s forces shoot them dead. Caesar’s enemies plotted to arrest him and establish their own new world order; Caesar arrested them first.

Critics pounce

The book – and Vance’s endorsement of it – have received negative coverage from right-wing extremism watchers, historians and left-leaning publications like Mother Jones, the New Republic and Current Affairs.

Critics say the book, released last month, not only idolizes brutal authoritarians but uses false narratives to demonize today’s mainstream progressives and liberals, including Black Lives Matter activists and those opposing Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election he lost to President Joe Biden.

“This book is a homily and apologia that spans centuries of revisionism on murderous dictators and insurrectionists and it's co-authored by someone who lauds far-right extremists and bigots in the United States,” said Brian Levin, founder of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino.

The Southern Poverty Law Center in 2022 listed Posobiec as an extremist who has “collaborated with white nationalists, antigovernment extremists … and neo-Nazis,” as well as the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers that stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

“Jack Posobiec is a political operative and internet performer of the anti-democracy hard right, known primarily for creating and amplifying viral disinformation campaigns,” the SPLC said, including the “Stop the Steal” campaign that cast doubt on the integrity of the 2020 election. “His disinformation typically focuses on making his political opponents seem dangerous or criminal, while ignoring or downplaying the corruption of authoritarians.”

Levin, a lawyer and former police officer who has monitored political violence for decades, said the book and its strategies for “crushing” unhumans is especially dangerous in the current superheated political environment because it "amplifies and directs aggression" toward progressives.

Given the current climate, Levin questioned Vance’s support of the book, which has climbed many non-fiction best-seller lists, including USA TODAY’s.

“Posobiec is a long-time extremist,” Levin said Tuesday. “Wouldn't that alone be reason enough to question Vance's judgment? But in combination with its embrace of political aggression, it is mind-bogglingly irresponsible as we see a rise in political violence.”

Posobiec, who describes himself in the book as an independent journalist and “veteran U.S. Navy intelligence officer,” is now host of the podcast “Human Events Daily.” The subject of Tuesday’s show, after new Democratic nominee Kamala Harris picked Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate? “TRUMP & VANCE VS TWO DRUNKEN MARXISTS 2024.”

William Martin, a Vance campaign spokesperson, told USA TODAY Wednesday that Vance and the campaign "decline to comment" on the "Unhumans" book and Vance’s support of it.

But Vance's endorsement of the book dovetails with the foreward he wrote for another radical-right manifesto, "Dawn's Early Light: Taking Back Washington to Save America" by the architect of the controversial Project 2025 conservative policy agenda. In its original subtitle that book advocates "burning downWashington" in a second Trump administration if he wins this Nov. 5.

Vance’s foreword, the New Republic reported citing an advance copy, ends with this dire call to action: "We are now all realizing that it’s time to circle the wagons and load the muskets. In the fights that lay ahead, these ideas are an essential weapon."

That book was initially scheduled to be released next month, but author Kevin Roberts, who said a "second American Revolution" will be bloodless “if the left allows it to be” told Real Clear Politics he is delaying publication.

Vance had no comment Wednesday on his foreward for the Roberts book, and whether the publication delay might be related to his selection as Trump's running mate on July 15.

The ‘Secret History of Communist Revolutions’

Posobiec told USA TODAY that the criticism of "Unhumans" – and of Vance − is unwarranted.

In an interview with USA Today, Posobiec said 'unhumans' are not mainstream progressives, but people who participated in violent Black Lives Matter protests, and who have targeted “folks like myself, my family, Trump supporters, anyone who marched peacefully on January 6."

In its 229 pages, the book revisits some of the worst communist regimes in Russia, China and elsewhere to argue that these movements follow a consistent pattern of instilling fear, stripping away human rights and jailing, torturing, and even murdering those they deem a threat.

The book was published last month with a foreword by far-right agitator and former Trump official Stephen Bannon, who praised the authors for arguing that a form of “Cultural Marxism” that emerged in the 1950s in the United States is now resurgent, making “humanity itself currently under threat.”

'Nothing in this book advocates illegal violence'

Posobiec took exception with the many critics who say the book is an open call for attacks on those deemed to be against conservative values.

“Nothing in this book advocates illegal violence," Posobiec said. Instead, he said, “We do advocate for legal weapons of mass persuasion.”

Asked what constitutes “legal violence,” he said: “Police activity. Arrests.”

Yes, the book glorifies the actions of well-known despots like Franco, Caesar and Wisconsin Republican Sen. Joseph McCarthy, Posobiec said. But he said all of them have been misunderstood, and that the book sets out to clear their names by showing how aggressive they were in hunting down and neutralizing those seeking to rob their communities of human rights and freedoms.

In “Unhumans,” for instance, McCarthy isn’t described as a zealot who ruined lives of innocent Americans in the 1950s by falsely accusing them of being communist agents. Instead, the book says, “Soviet sympathizers tried to poison the youth with media and schooling; Senator McCarthy poisoned their reputation to make them unemployable. Reciprocity.”

Jackie Singh, a former Biden campaign official and researcher on threats to democracy, said the underlying theme of the entire book – the use of the term “unhumans” − encourages political violence whether the authors intended it or not.

“Any linguistic suggestion that some particular out-groups of human beings are somehow 'lesser', closer to animals, vermin, insects etc. can only drive cultural progression towards acceptance of violence towards those groups,” Singh said. “Those who employ such language are aware of this purpose and exploit humanity's desire for belonging and tendency towards groupthink to advance anti-democratic political goals.”

One in 20 Latinos Not Counted in Census: Why It Matters by Rogelio Saenz, Latino Rebels, 4.20.2022

Dr. Rogelio Saenz addresses in this piece how the Latino population is currently experiencing  a taking away of the franchise. This happens through various mechanisms, including through gerrymandering and Voter ID laws. What demographer Saenz shows is how the decennial 2020 U.S. Census itself was politicized, resulting in what is now a grievous and consequential undercount to the shocking tune of 3.3 million people:
"Ultimately, the Supreme Court permitted Trump to terminate the census ahead of its original deadline.

A major casualty of Trump’s dirty hand: one of 20 Latinos were not counted. Unfortunately, the consequence of the damage that Trump sowed against the Latino population is not short-term.

The deafening absence of the 3.3 million Latinos who were not enumerated has a long shelf life—10 years. The census takes place every 10 years to apportion the seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and to distribute federal funds based on the population count. Therefore, during the next decade, Latinos will be underrepresented politically at the federal, state, and local levels."
This is the kind of thing we mean when we in the academic community use phrases like "structured oppression." It all becomes not only further oppressive but more bizarre when those behind these structures then seek to legislate away the thought and thusly, the memory, of any such oppressions while casting themselves as the "aggrieved party."

This is what fascism is and what fascism does, my friends.

And then, according to opinion columnist Michelle Goldberg in the New York Times in a piece titled, "The Awful Advent of Reactionary Chic," some in Austin's, Miami's, and Manhattan's tech outposts, it has become "edgy and cool" to be "anti-woke."

Yes it's twisted and messed up. It's a "prettying-up" of fascism, no doubt.

When do facts and truth about actual oppression within colonial matrices of power ever enter the equation? Deceit, corruption, and white supremacist logics are at the heart of U.S. Census politics. They seek to protect the incumbencies of those in power at any cost.

For the rest of us who oppose fascism and believe in democracy, let's clear the smoke, pull down the curtains, and take back our power—albeit to have power with, as opposed to having power over, the larger society.

One in 20 Latinos Not Counted in Census: Why It Matters

by

Rogelio Saenz, Latino Rebels | April 20, 2022

 AP Photo/Paul Sancya, File

The Census Bureau recently reported the results of its analysis concerning the precision of its count of the nation’s population in the 2020 census. In the aggregate, the count was just 0.2 percent below the population estimate of the country, signifying that approximately 782,000 persons were not counted.

An extraordinary feat—almost all persons in the nation were counted in the midst of a pandemic. However, the devil is in the details. On the one hand, whites and Asians were overcounted by 1.6 percent and 2.6 percent, respectively.

On the other hand, Indigenous peoples, Latinos, and African Americans were undercounted. In the case of Latinos, one out of every 20 was not counted. This translates to nearly 3.3 million Latinos not counted nationally, equivalent to the entire population of Utah.

It is clear that the tally of uncounted Latinos is considerable and not merely a drop.

But Why Were They Not Counted? The reason is a confluence of factors due to the pandemic and, definitely, politics.

First, the pandemic has been cruel, but especially ferocious against the Latino population. At the time of the final deadline for the submission of the census questionnaire, October 15, 2020, 128,000 Latinos had already lost their lives to COVID-19, and our rate of death was twice that of whites.

In addition, then-President Trump used all forms of politics to threaten undocumented Latinos and their families so that they would not participate in the census. Indeed, he attempted, without success, to insert a citizenship question in the census and to exclude unauthorized persons from the numbers used for redistricting. Never mind that the U.S. Constitution requires, by law, that every person living in this country be counted.

Ultimately, the Supreme Court permitted Trump to terminate the census ahead of its original deadline.

Therefore, during the next decade, Latinos will be underrepresented politically at the federal, state, and local levels.

Furthermore, the Republican Party in many parts of the nation, especially in Texas, has used a variety of tactics to suppress and minimize the Latino vote including the enactment of voter ID laws and gerrymandering. Moreover, due to Latinos not being adequately counted in the census, our Latino community will lose significant amounts of federal funds over the next 10 years.

Is There a Remedy? Over the decades, there has been a consistent undercount of Latinos and other persons of color in the census. Regularly, after each census, advocacy organizations for people of color have called for a statistical adjustment to better reflect the actual enumeration of the population.

Historically, these demands have been rejected. However, the U.S. Census Bureau has some of the best statisticians in the world, including Robert Santos, the first person of color to direct the agency.

The scientific knowledge and capacity to make this statistical correction exists. We need to demand that this measure be taken to correct this wrong. A Spanish version of this essay was recently published in La Voz de Austin.

Trump's "Passive Eugenics" and Crimes Against Humanity by Juan Andrade, Ph.D.

When in response to the COVID death toll,  Donald Trump says "It is what it is," he lends enormous credence to the notion of "passive eugenics, as argued herein by Dr. Juan Andrade, President of the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute.

This is fascist, horrific, and repulsive. This way of knowing and being must not get normalized.

As per an earlier post to this blog titled, Conservative think tank leader says schools should reopen since most Texans dying from COVID-19 are elderly or Hispanic, this genocidal impulse is also very much mirrored in Texas politics and policy making.

After reviewing these pieces, I'm starting to think that this isn't "passive" at all when they actually know what they're saying and doing—or not doing—as the case may be.

Last May, I wrote an article about Passive Eugenics. In it, I questioned why the death rate due to COVID19 was up to 64,000. Didn’t it matter that over half of the victims were people of color? Why had almost half of the victims been nursing home residents? After 5,000 meat packing plant workers had been infected, mostly Latinos and blacks, why did Trump order them to go back to work or risk losing their unemployment benefits? Why were farmworkers ordered back to work, after so many had

already died? I concluded the article by calling it “Passive Eugenics”, or genocide a.k.a. crimes against humanity.

This was genocide that was deliberately being committed against very vulnerable populations. Why didn’t the Trump administration formulate a national plan to protect Americans from the virus? Well, now we know the answer. It was because of decisions made by people in the White House, including the President. Their decisions were criminal.

We recently learned that a national plan to control the virus was conceptualized and partially drafted, early on. On March 13, a meeting was held at the White House with the CEOs of major retailers and pharmaceutical companies regarding a national testing strategy. A big announcement followed. Trump laid out the framework, consisting of a federal testing program, a national database of testing results, a tracing program, and a website to provide vital information and the locations of potentially 32,000 testing sites.

For six weeks, Trump’s team waited for him to give the word. The word never came because, as one team member stated, “The political folks believed that because [COVID-19] was going to be relegated to Democratic states, that they could blame those governors, and that would be an effective political strategy.”

So the pursuit of a national plan evolved into a deadly and potentially criminal political strategy. The administration abdicated its role and responsibility and left it to the states to formulate their own plans, resulting in 50 state-based plans, devoid of presidential leadership. This, of course, shielded the administration from any blame for the impending disaster that would claim many lives in blue states like New York, Illinois, and California. It made the governors responsible for acquiring whatever PPE, ventilators, masks, and swabs they needed. The federal government obstructed their efforts by intercepting their deliveries to create their own stockpiles, forcing the states to scramble to find more equipment and supplies, and pay exorbitant prices. Our national response to the virus turned into absolute chaos, as infections and the number of deaths soared.

Now, four months later, 4.6 million Americans have caught the virus, and 156,000 have died. What’s worse, is that the death toll is expected to surpass 200,000 by the end of next month, and possibly double that number before the virus is brought under control.

Today, one American is dying every minute of the day. This is the result of Trump’s inhumane decision to allow people to die unnecessarily for political reasons, rather than choosing to save American lives. These deaths were preventable. Trump’s decision could possibly be criminal also under U.N. Resolution 96, adopted December 11, 1946, making genocide against racial, religious, political, and other groups, “entirely or in part,” a crime under international law.

This is America's Fascist Collapse And it's almost too late to stop it. by Umair Haque

As in this March 13, 2016 post, I have been calling out fascism on this blog for some time now.  That said, I do appreciate Umair Haque's correct acknowledgement of the ways in which this administration has been fascist from the very beginning and asking aloud why this wasn't noticed, meaning truly noticed until Trump's Bible stunt in front of St. John's Episcopal Church this week.
The difference over time is its intensification and elaboration into new forms of distortion and domination that continue to threaten our country if we do not vote this president and his party out of office.  As expressed this week in The Atlantic by Anne Applebaum, history will most certainly judge the complicit of this administration.

My observation is that the protesters are not only sophisticated in this regard, but undeterred such that they are already judging the complicit.
Way to go, Millennials.  Our country is in excellent hands.

Godspeed!

See that pic above? Americans woke up to soldiers and fencing surrounding the White House. An op-ed in the New York Times calling for the use of domestic military force, aka, soldiers shooting people in the streets. Major cities under curfew. A phalanx of mysterious men in body armour carrying machine guns, only without badges, who wouldn’t respond to questions — like Trump’s new personal secret police. Or maybe SS.
Finally — finally — the general understanding seemed to dawn that this was fascism. Pundits and intellectuals used the word “fascism” for the first time. They were horrified and shocked. The idea seems to be, right about now, that America’s in danger of having a fascist collapse.
Wrong.
What the hell do you think the last four years have been?

Fintan O’Toole: Trial runs for fascism are in full flow

Creeping fascism in the U.S. and beyond.  And what should concern us is so-called Christianity's role in this.  Forewarned is forearmed. Thanks to Bruce Barrett Banner for sharing.

Fintan O’Toole: Trial runs for fascism are in full flow

Babies in cages were no ‘mistake’ by Trump but test-marketing for barbarism

Coverage of the detention centre scandal in Texas is falling along partisan lines in the US media with Fox News being sympathetic and CNN outraged. Video: CNN, MSNBC, Fox News

To grasp what is going on in the world right now, we need to reflect on two things. One is that we are in a phase of trial runs. The other is that what is being trialled is fascism – a word that should be used carefully but not shirked when it is so clearly on the horizon. Forget “post-fascist” – what we are living with is pre-fascism.
It is easy to dismiss Donald Trump as an ignoramus, not least because he is. But he has an acute understanding of one thing: test marketing. He created himself in the gossip pages of the New York tabloids, where celebrity is manufactured by planting outrageous stories that you can later confirm or deny depending on how they go down. And he recreated himself in reality TV where the storylines can be adjusted according to the ratings. Put something out there, pull it back, adjust, go again.
Fascism doesn’t arise suddenly in an existing democracy. It is not easy to get people to give up their ideas of freedom and civility. You have to do trial runs that, if they are done well, serve two purposes. They get people used to something they may initially recoil from; and they allow you to refine and calibrate. This is what is happening now and we would be fools not to see it

Moral boundaries
But when you’ve done all this, there is a crucial next step, usually the trickiest of all. You have to undermine moral boundaries, inure people to the acceptance of acts of extreme cruelty. Like hounds, people have to be blooded. They have to be given the taste for savagery. Fascism does this by building up the sense of threat from a despised out-group. This allows the members of that group to be dehumanised. Once that has been achieved, you can gradually up the ante, working through the stages from breaking windows to extermination.
People have to be given the taste for savagery. Fascism does this by building up the sense of threat from a despised out-group
It is this next step that is being test-marketed now. It is being done in Italy by the far-right leader and minister for the interior Matteo Salvini. How would it go down if we turn away boatloads of refugees? Let’s do a screening of the rough-cut of registering all the Roma and see what buttons the audience will press. And it has been trialled by Trump: let’s see how my fans feel about crying babies in cages. I wonder how it will go down with Rupert Murdoch.

Children and workers at a tent encampment recently built in Tornillo, Texas: the blooding process has begun within the democratic world. Photograph: Joe Raedle

To see, as most commentary has done, the deliberate traumatisation of migrant children as a “mistake” by Trump is culpable naivety. It is a trial run – and the trial has been a huge success. Trump’s claim last week that immigrants “infest” the US is a test-marketing of whether his fans are ready for the next step-up in language, which is of course “vermin”. And the generation of images of toddlers being dragged from their parents is a test of whether those words can be turned into sounds and pictures. It was always an experiment – it ended (but only in part) because the results were in.

‘Devious’ infants

And the results are quite satisfactory. There is good news on two fronts. First, Rupert Murdoch is happy with it – his Fox News mouthpieces outdid themselves in barbaric crassness: making animal noises at the mention of a Down syndrome child, describing crying children as actors. They went the whole swinish hog: even the brown babies are liars. Those sobs of anguish are typical of the manipulative behaviour of the strangers coming to infest us – should we not fear a race whose very infants can be so devious? Second, the hardcore fans loved it: 58 percent of Republicans are in favour of this brutality. Trump’s overall approval ratings are up to 42.5 per cent.

Fox News mouthpieces outdid themselves in barbaric crassness: making animal noises at the mention of a Down syndrome child, describing crying children as actors.

This is greatly encouraging for the pre-fascist agenda. The blooding process has begun within the democratic world. The muscles that the propaganda machines need for defending the indefensible are being toned up. Millions and millions of Europeans and Americans are learning to think the unthinkable. So what if those black people drown in the sea? So what if those brown toddlers are scarred for life? They have already, in their minds, crossed the boundaries of morality. They are, like Macbeth, “yet but young in deed”. But the tests will be refined, the results analysed, the methods perfected, the messages sharpened. And then the deeds can follow.
