I got Dr. Blandina "Bambi" Cardenas' permission to post her beautiful Facebook commentary to this blog. My response to her was as follows:
"And another way that I think about this is that historic prejudice and discrimination have served to preserve our identities, in addition to uniting us. Especially when, as you say, the situation is the most glaring."
Much good will come of this. History will be more than kind to the Texas Dems, praising them for their courage and defiance for the greater good of free and fair elections that constitute the bedrock of our democracy.
Thanks, Bambi, for your powerful, soulful, and hopeful words. 💗

FOOLISH MEN HOLDING ON TO POWER BY THEIR DIRTY FINGERNAILS, haven't they learned by now that it is too late to try to beat us into submission, that every time they attack basic rights of citizenship, citizens resist. The more shameless the affront, the clearer their wretched purpose is to the broad spectrum of honest people. Tyranny breeds resistance. Forming a more perfect union is a process. Every time we are forced to come together, we become stronger, we learn new processes, we clarify our priorities and even if we are beaten back, it is only temporary because we have learned to trust each other, support each other and keep our eye on what is truly important.
As I look at these spectacular young leaders taking their place on the national stage and making their way into the national narrative, my heart is filled with hope. White, Black, Mexican American, LGBTQ, People with Disabilities and yes, yes, yes WOMEN are forming the bonds that struggle melds into golden steel.
They are so much smarter, more articulate, more savvy than we were fifty years ago. We were not divided, but we were apart.
THANK YOU ABBOTT FOR BRINGING US TOGETHER.
Texas Dems with Congressman Lloyd Doggett in D.C.
