On the heels of the much-anticipated November 13, 2019 hearing on African American Studies by the Texas State Board of Education, please join us for an evening of discussion on the struggle for Ethnic Studies in the state of Texas. As an agenda that dates back to the late 1960s and early 1970s, this panel of scholar-activists will share their experiences in, and perspectives on, the defeat of a racist textbook, the passage of an elective, statewide high school course on Mexican American Studies integral to the larger Ethnic Studies agenda and movement, and local-level initiatives for an inclusive curriculum in Austin’s public schools. This panel will also provide detail germane to Wednesday’s hearing.
Free and open to the public.
